Monday Nights In The Park Won't Return This Summer
ALBANY NY - The Lark Street Business Improvement District announced that the popular Monday Nights in the Park will not be returning this summer. Monday Nights in the Park was a summer concert series that ran for two years, in 2007 and 2008, in Albany's Washington Park.
The popular free concert series will not be returning to Albany this summer due to insufficient funding, according to the Lark Street BID Executive Director, Michael Weidrich.
In previous years, Monday Nights in the Park ran for a few weeks from July through August with popular acts performing each Monday night from 6 pm - 9 pm. The event was organized by the Lark Street BID and sponsored by many area businesses as a way to bring the community together for a free night of music at the Washington Park Lakehouse.
The event was nearly canceled last year due to lacking funds and sponsors, but this year's economic climate, Weidrich said, would make it impossible for the weekly shows to return for summer 2009. He did not, however, rule out a possible return of Monday Nights in the Park for the coming years.
