The title “Sparkley Clean Funeral Singers” may bring question marks to your mind, but we know better than to judge a book by its cover… right? Especially in this case of The Capital Repertory Theatre’s newest show the characters and the story are more than the title (or this short post) can tell.
In just under two hours, on one stage, four talented actors (one being the story’s author, Lori Fischer) bring to life back-up singer Junie, no impulse control Lashley, weathering Dad, confused Pastor Phil and all of their life’s limitations. To varying degrees you see yourself and those you know in each of their personalities whether you’d like to or not. Each struggle and song and joke is purposeful and relatable. You cheer for them and hope they can step out of their ruts, break their habits and finally maybe, just maybe be happy. But most importantly you walk away with a realistic belief in second chances.
So, what habits do you fall into? Eating at the same restaurant, making the same weekend plans – whatever it is Downtown has your solution.
See a show – Sparkly Clean plays at theREP through August, enjoy live music, try a new dinner spot, or at least a new menu item, but whatever it is – take a step beyond the usual. The GOOD Life is Downtown all you have to do is arrive (and maybe check our calendar – downtownalbany.com/events).
See you Downtown.
