When Angelo Mazzone opened his upscale 677 Prime restaurant in downtown Albany in 2005, some people were surprised he quickly sold out of wine lockers he was leasing at $5,000 a year. And, he had a waiting list in case anyone dropped out.
As always, the Big Apple outdoes ’em all. The annual price for a three cubic foot wine storage locker at celebrity chef Daniel Bolud’s new restaurant, Bar Bolud, is $15,000.
At least that’s the price for the first locker at the restaurant, scheduled to open late this year. It went that high because it was up for auction to benefit Citymeals-on-Wheels.
There are 14 more lockers to be leased. One presumes they’ll all fetch the same price since the value has been established. The lockers have a capacity of 36 standard-sized bottles.
