It’s as sure as the sun coming up over a jungle canopy. Every time we get a downpour, someone drives their vehicle into a deep puddle, floods it out and blocks traffic.
You’d think people would be able to gauge the potential depth of a puddle rather than blithely plunging ahead. After all, even gorillas look before they leap.
Gorillas? Yep. According to research from the Wildlife Conservation Society at the Bronx Zoo, biologists have documented gorillas in the wild using simple tools, something once thought exclusive to orangutans and small chimps in the ape family. One of the things the big guys do is poke a stick into a swampy pool of water to check its depth.
Just imagine what they would do with a GPS-equipped SUV.
