Rosa Parks refused to move to the rear of the bus.
Foxy Brown refuses to even get on the bus,
Sadly, I suspect, the average American recognizes the name of acting-out rapper Foxy Brown more than they do civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks.
As Russian emigre comic Yakov Smirnoff likes to say, “What a country!”
Inga Marchand, 28, who prefers being called Foxy Brown although she is not one of those things and the name Inga Marchand has a perfectly nice ring to it, is in the process of serving a one-year jail term for violating probation skipping court-ordered anger management classes and traveling out of the city without permission.
Nevertheless, with one sentence under way and a second one a good possibility, she refused to get on the bus to go to court for an arraignment as ordered Friday. Twice.
My sources tell me she was afraid she’d miss meat loaf night in the mess hall, but I haven’t been able to confirm that.
Can you imagine someone without a gaggle of fans, publicists and recording company executives supporting them refusing to get on the bus to go to court? Twice?
What did our corrections system do about her refusals? They politely rescheduled her court appearance for next Tuesday.
I presume that would be more convenient for Ms. Brown. Although, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to hear she’d acted up again to get her date changed once again, to something closer to Nov. 20.
Why? That’s when her next album is scheduled for release.
