To many downtown homeowners and renters, this day has been a long time coming. This Monday night the Albany Common Council will vote to approve the measure implementing the permit parking system. This system will allow permit holders to park their cars somewhere close to where they live, eliminating the need for a GPS to find the car. These are areas close to the Capitol whose streets are hot ticket items for state worker’s seeking parking. I feel for the worker’s, but as a former downtown resident, it is definitely a concern if you choose to live there. I hope if there are any dissenters when the vote it taken, they make known their reasoning for a no vote.……….Hyrdrofracking is coming to the state of New York. The governor let it slip that the state was looking to allow drilling on a limited basis in five southern tier counties. These are counties who sit on top of the rich shale formation. They need the revenue. They need the jobs. If a county wants to vote to disallow the process, so be it. But for the counties whose residents choose to allow it, and for the landowners who choose to lease their land, they shouldn’t be prevented from doing so. The gas companies have the money to make improvements to the infrastructure like roadways and utilities. The counties can make items like that terms of any drilling permits. Do you think for one minute, these drilling companies don’t know that if they make one mistake, if they let one quart of any nasty liquid breach the drinking water aquifer, they will be shut down in a heartbeat. Nobody wants to violate our drinking water. For the opponents of the process, take a look at the technology that will be in place to prevent this from happening. The governor wants this; eventually it will happen.
