It is a time of the year that the Capital District looks forward to each summer. That is the forty days of spectacular horse racing at Saratoga. The summer Saratoga meet — undoubtedly the finest racing in the country — brings a ton of dollars to the local economy. I came across a story in the TU the other day about a trainer, Richard Dutrow Jr. If you don’t follow horse racing, you might remember him as the trainer of that spectacular horse Big Brown a few years ago. It seems that the NYS Racing and Wagering Board has been trying to suspend Dutrow for ten years since last year, and his latest appeal in the Appellate Division of the State Supreme Court has been denied. Now, everybody screws up on the job once in a while, but this guy, since 1979, has been sanctioned 64 times for various rules violations, at fifteen racetracks, in nine states. The last straw being the testing positive of a horse at Aqueduct for a banned substance, and the discovery of additional hypodermic needles in his office at the track. Horse painkillers and needles are a definite no-no at state tracks. Why is this guy still allowed on the property? I’m sure there isn’t another trainer with a fraction of those violations. What’s next for him? A trip the The U.S. Supreme Court? What then; another year of letting him around horses. Time to put this guy out of business now.……….Hey Lee Kindlon. Stop it with all the Twitter stuff about the debates with David Soares. Although not obligated to engage in a debate, the well oiled incumbent DA will probably accept your invitation for at least one, just to show you who’s the boss. Time to get your word out someway else. There’s 52 days left to primary, and you’ve been pretty quiet. Time to crank it up a notch. You’ve got to get some shots in about the way he handled that Occupy Albany mess. That was a disaster on his part. Soares pissed off a lot of people with the way that turned out.……….Penn State took down the statue of longtime coach Joe Paterno over the weekend. A sad ending for Paterno’s family. Too bad. He personally, could have put a stop to countless innocent children being abused by that dirtbag Sandusky. BUT HE DIDN’T!!! He just allowed him to take his abuse off-campus. He put his legacy seeking ambitions over the welfare of those young boys. He was no role model, no one to look up to.
And that is “The Daily Take”
