The monotonous gathering of petition signatures to be included on the individual party ballots for the fall elections is over. In the race for the 109th Assembly District — by far the most interesting local race — six democrats have submitted the required petitions. As in most races, these candidates are being backed by various local politicos. There are also nondescript individuals who always see the need for personal attention. One of these individuals is Albany Common Council member Anton Konev. Anton is calling on party chairman Matt Clyne to recuse himself from any decisions involving the race in the 109th. Clyne has openly endorsed Pat Fahy for the soon to be vacant seat. Konev who is backing Chris Higgins (that’s a top notch endorsement there Chris) says that Clyne — as elections commissioner — might be involved in the validation of petitions process, therefore creating a conflict of interest concerning certain party backed candidates. It seems, Anton, that you haven’t gotten your name in the newspaper lately, and you feel the need to put it there. I think it’s time for you to shut up. I thought that taking a shot at Pat Fahy about the location of her campaign headquarters was in poor taste also. Why don’t you just go and update your common council bio.……….A couple of things about the upcoming Olympics. One: There was a piece in the TU on Sunday about the Saudi government not sending women to the games in London. If the Olympic Committee does not stand up to these people and tell them no team unless it includes women, then there is no team. They did it to South Africa in the 60’s for their racial policies, so why not Saudi Arabia. Two: It’s an absolute disgrace that the American team will be wearing outfits made entirely in China. I guess it’s par for the course; try finding something made in America sitting in front of you right now. Isn’t any clothing made in the U.S. now? Or do we just have to have some fancy-ass designers name on it.……….Hey anti-frackers! Thanks to you there are some folks who lease their land for gas drilling — that has been going on for a while — who have lost their royalty checks, and access to free natural gas. All because of the moratorium on drilling for gas. Gas company makes no money. People make no money.……….Penn State. That is for a piece over the weekend.
And that is “The Daily Take”
