The proverbial you know what hit the fan for the Albany Common Council last night, as the dissenters of the newly enacted Caberet Law dissented upon their chambers last night. One by one, they spoke of how the new law will adversely affect their businesses. I thought the law’s intent was to somehow regulate the kind of entertainment permissible in Albany’s nightspots. That, on face value, is a questionable reason for a law. Then, to try an regulate the hours the clubs can offer entertainment, is absurd. Try to do that in Boston, or Syracuse for that matter. The common council definitely dropped the ball on this one. One member said the council never discussed times, and another said that times were discussed in general, but ‘special provisions’ were left up to the various city departments (fire, police, planning and code.) So what did you expect to happen? Jerry Jennings has wanted to do this for years, and you signed a law that enables him to do just that. I guess there is a provision to review the law after six months. This will happen a lot sooner then that, as an attorney representing at least one establishment owner, is all geared up for a lawsuit.……….I finally got the e-mail I have been waiting for. Commisso Jr. is finally having a fundraiser in my neighborhood. It seems that Frank needs to add to the pile of cash he currently sits on. I hope to meet all the guys from BBL and Columbia Development that have enormously contributed to that pile of cash. I hope that Jerry will be there, so we can talk about the Caberet Law. If nothing else, the burgers are the best in Albany.
And that is “The Daily Take”
