The last time I was in the Dean Moot courtroom at Albany Law School, was 29 years ago, as I watched my sister-in-law, then a third year law student, go one on one with three professors acting as judges in a mock trial. That night was a hell of a lot more interesting than last night. I expected some fireworks, but with the allotted time and cookie cutter questions, that just was not to happen. As expected, Junior Commisso threw a few barbs Pat Fahy’s way, just exemplifying his last ditch efforts to sway voters away from her, as she gains endorsements, including one from Albany’s only major newspaper, the Times Union. One thing I bet Pat wished she didn’t say however, was the part about Albany’s schools project coming in on time, and on budget. On paper, it wasn’t and it wasn’t. A project such as that, when considering it’s scope — which included renovating several old buildings — it’s not uncommon for the cost and timetable to be revised. Now, the construction of the new Myers middle school is a different story. That project was estimated using the dollars of the time, and if that is where cost overruns occurred, that is unacceptable. There is probably no easy way of telling where cost overruns could have occurred, without some serious digging, which Junior should have done before coming out with the post he made on Twitter. The bottom line is that Fahy, although on the school board at the time , was no way responsible for cost overruns. You try to manage a $148 million dollar project.……….The President made compelling reasons to vote for him last night, as he accepted the nomination. If you compare one convention to the other, there is no doubt as to who had more electricity in the building. The Republican’s have made it a whole lot easier to like the Democrats. I wonder if Romney has been watching any Dirty Harry movies as he prepares for next months debate.……….I hope the Yankees come out of their funk pretty soon. Blowing a ten game lead in a month is totally unacceptable. They have twenty-five games left, and a lot of the competition is with the two teams who have been kicking their ass.
