This week we are going to bury another fallen soldier from the local area. This soldier, Todd Clark, happened to be an Lieutenant Colonel who was on his second deployment to Afghanistan, fifth overall to the war torn area. He, along with another Officer and a man working for a military contractor were killed when an Afghan coward that they we training turned and open fired on them. They were there to train him and others to be soldiers in the Afghan army. Nothing that I have read indicated that Clark volunteered for all that duty, or if the government kept sending him over there time after time. This man left behind a wife and two children, and I would hope to god, and for the sake of his family, that he did not volunteer for all that duty. But, if the Army kept re-deploying him to the area, there just has to be other people who are qualified to do the job. In the case of the military contractor, Joseph Morabito, an ex-military man, he chose to go there, He was a professional soldier who was in the country for his job. He was there supporting his family in the states. He was well aware of what eventually happened — a sub-performing trainee got ticked off because he thought he was being outed by the Americans — could actually happen. We are training people who don’t want our help, and anything we try to instill in their heads will go right out the window the minute we leave the god forsaken country. They hate Americans, and the values we stand for. I know the President has his plan for getting out of there, but what purpose are we serving over there, and in the meantime we are getting more soldiers and civilians killed. It’s more than time to get out.……….In the ”Say it Ain’t So” category: The owners of Hoffman’s Playland said they are entertaining offers to sell the storied amusement park. Now, everybody has their stories about going there as a kid, or bringing their own kids there, but how about the Hoffman’s? What would you do if someone dangled two million dollars or so in front of you? If they left it to their kids (I don’t even know if they have any), what do you think they would do with it? Yep. What was the County Exec. doing out there yesterday? Do you want to buy it Dan? That idea about buying it up is nonsense. Development to the left, former Hoffman property to the right under development, Let’s put in another Lowe’s!!!……….Nice job Frank Commisso and your pals at the County Legislature. For you out of town readers, I’m speaking of the body of government that runs the county with which this city sits in. Seems that a long awaited satellite campus of SCCC, a local community college finally was set to become a reality on a floor of 112 State Street, which is the county headquarters. The bids came in for the renovation, and when the low bidder did not meet King Commisso’s approval, he had them thrown out because the winning contractor was not of his liking — what I really meant was not of his choosing — for some BS apprenticeship clause. Anyway, the project was rebid, and the winning bid was from the same contractor who won the first time, only for $87,000 dollars more. Good job Frank.………..The US Open is underway this weekend, and a reporter was interviewing a player, and his question was: ”what do you have to do today?” What’s the guy supposed to say? ”Oh, I’m planning on hitting every sand trap I can find, and make a few bogeys.” Idiot.
