First of all welcome to all of our out of town visitors to Albany. Get out and enjoy all of what this city has to offer. There is plenty to do even though the temperature these days struggles to top the freezing mark. Go rent some skates at the Empire State Plaza and try your hand or feet at ice skating; followed by a drive through the Lights In The Park exhibit in nearby Washington Park. Don’t forget dinner in one of Albany’s fine restaurants. Hit the back button to get the main page back for a complete rundown of what’s going on. Enjoy.
This should end up at the end of the blog in the “I Just Can’t Help Myself” portion, but in this case, I just can’t help myself. Let me say right up front that I am not a fan of Donald Trump. But in the case of this impeachment business I believe that he is definitely getting the short end of the stick. Maybe not the short end, but a different end. Did Trump hold a gun to the head of Ukraine’s President by withholding aid to his country pending their investigation into Joe Biden and his son. Absolutely. But in doing so did he intend any harm to the nation. I doubt it. He was just being Donald Trump bully. Now it has turned into a circus. Pelosi is refusing to submit the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate until Schumer and McConnell iron out their differences. Hell will freeze over first. When they impeached Bill Clinton back in 1999, they were turned over in a matter of hours. We aren’t even going to talk about Andrew Johnson. That event was totally a farce. And guess what American’s? They didn’t impeach Johnson, and they didn’t impeach Clinton, and after the dust settles, and after they realize how much time and money they wasted, they won’t impeach Trump either. What a debacle.
There are so many Democrats seeking the nomination it’s hard to keep track of them all. One who sticks out because he’s spending so much money, locally anyway is Tom Steyer. He does have one good idea though; term limits. If all those politico’s didn’t get so comfortable in their lifetime appointments, we might not be in this mess. Twelve years is plenty for the House and Senate.
Hey Albany Med! Wise up will you. How do you expect to run a hospital without any nurses. I am not a big union fan, but I think that the nurses, around here at least are grossly underpaid. Sit down and make some kind of deal with them. It takes a special kind of person to do what they do. Why don’t you just pay them for what they do. Help People.
While you are handing out a Driver’s License to undocumented immigrants, why stop there. Why not free health care? How about a free college education? Maybe a debit card to pay for groceries. What kind of proof, if any is required to obtain one. I heard a passport will do. I don’t even have a passport. Do they even have to take a test? Or just hand over the keys to a new car. I feel sorry for the people who work in the clerk’s office. I am sorry if my rant sounds harsh, but we need to take care of our own citizens first. Some, especially the homeless who we grossly neglect. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, as of 2019, 13 states and the District of Columbia offered licenses.
In today’s “I Just Can’t Help Myself” we touch upon the New York Yankee’s latest version of “I don’t care what it costs to win a World Series.” The Bronx Bombers last week signed Gerrit Cole to a nine year deal worth $324 mil. For you without a calculator handy that’s $36 mil/yr. Granted he had a league leading 2.50 ERA, and topped the majors with 326 strikeouts while pitching for the Houston Astros last year, but that is ridiculous. No wonder that the people who attend ballgames pay $10 for a hotdog. You Boston fans — one in particular you know who you are — must be laughing your asses off. You better be good Bubba.
