Just how does the result of polling affect the direction that a candidate takes? A great deal, I would suspect. I believe that in the race for the next mayor of Albany, the supposed poll taken by now Mayor Jennings could have had a great deal of affect on whether or not he sought re-election. I say supposed because I was not polled, nor do I know anyone who was. I learned about it when it was disclosed that monies were sent from Jennings’ war chest fund to a firm who’s business is polling. In the current race, I have received calls from both Kathy Sheehan and Corey Ellis. A week or so ago, the results of a poll were released that showed Sheehan having a substantial lead over her only viable contender, Ellis. It is worth noting however, that the calls on behalf of Ellis were received post poll results. What’s up with that Corey? It appears to me that you were making a desperation poll. Sheehan’s polls were organized to the point, asking all the right questions. While you will not see a sign or have a ”walking tour visit” in my ward, her signs and people — along with her cohort Darius — are all over every other part of Albany. I was driving by Buckingham Pond the other day when I saw my first Ellis sign. She — Darius too — is all over social media. Neither one of them makes a move without posting it on Twitter. There are so many pictures posted on Facebook that you could make a Sheehan and Shahinfar family album. The point is that there are a lot of people in this city who do not want to see Kathy Sheehan as the next Mayor of Albany, and you don’t appear to be serious about doing anything about it. Albany is facing problems, both present and in the future. Why not do something candidates don’t normally do; take a stand on the issues. Pick one: The Landfill, urban blight, the waterfront, what to do with the original Convention Center site. These are issues that have to be dealt with, now and in the future. Sheehan certainly isn’t confronting them. When the new site for the CC was announced last week, a project I think in it’s new format is supported by the citizens of Albany, she said ” I want a market driven approach” and ”There needs to be an analysis of the numbers.” What the hell is that supposed to mean? What numbers? Isn’t the money coming from the state? Either you support it, or not. You came out in half assed support through a spokesperson. Who is running your campaign, Corey? There is a month left before the Primary. There will be no November.……….I am glad to see that the city common council is on top of the hot issues. They voted unanimously last night to make it illegal to leave your car idling for more than five minutes. Let’s see how they enforce that. Imagine that you drove your wife to the Price Chopper on a January day with the temperature hovering around zero, and you sat in the car waiting for her while she shopped. You left the car running to keep you from freezing your ass off. All of a sudden two cop cars block you both front and back to make sure you didn’t make a run for it because she’s been in the store for more that five minutes, and you sat in the car with the engine idling. “But your Honor, can your wife do the grocery shopping in five minutes or less? Plus the Jets game was in the fourth quarter.” I can only imagine who sponsored that piece of legislation. Geez.

Just how does the result of polling affect the direction that a candidate takes? A great deal, I would suspect.
