Yes, yes, and yes. Please do!
There are so many reasons to neuter your male puppy, or spay your female one. Without getting preachy, just think about the overpopulation of pets.
At any animal shelter, you’ll find dozens of puppies and dogs that need homes. Only one out of five companion animals have a home. The rest end up in shelters or on the street, and 20-30% of those will be euthanized.
The following are NOT valid reasons to not spay or neuter:
- You want your kids to learn about the birds and the bees;
- You think its unnatural;
- You wonder if it will change your dog’s personality;
- You think its too expensive;
- You believe your dog will get fat.
The following ARE good reasons to get your dog fixed:
- Its better for his health;
- He’ll be less likely to try and escape or to roam the neighborhood;
- He won’t get into fights as often as un-neutered dogs;
- He won’t mark his territory as much as non-neutered dogs.
If money is an issue, please check with local rescues, shelters, and vets to see if you qualify for a reduced spay/neuter fee certificate.
