About this event
A long-time favorite of Proctors oldies fans is headlining the show: Jay and the Americans. They have come a long way from when they started as teenagers in Sandy Yaguda’s basement, and founding members Sandy and Yaguda and Marty Kupersmith continue to deliver a great performance. In the 1960s, JATA had twelve top 10 hits, including “Cara Mia,” “Come a Little Bit Closer,” “Let’s Lock the Door (and Throw Away the Key),” “This Magic Moment,” “Only in America,” “She Cried,” “Walkin in the Rain” and “Some Enchanted Evening.”
Co-headlining the show are Vocal Group Hall of Fame members, The Vogues. Renowned for their unmatched vocal harmonies, they had nine top twenty hits from 1965-1970, including “You’re the One” (#4), “Five O’Clock World,” (#4), “My Special Angel,” “Till,” “Moments to Remember,” “Earth Angel,” “Magic Town” and “Green Fields.”
Another Proctors favorite, The Happenings, will also perform. In 1966-1967, they had four gold records, including chart-topping “See You in September” (international #1 hit and still ranked in the top 100 “Summer Songs” in pop history), “Go Away Little Girl,” “I Got Rhythm” and “My Mammy.” Original lead singer Bob Miranda brings incredible vocal prowess and stage showmanship to the stage, and his version of “Proud to be an American,” a salute to veterans will bring the crowd to their feet.
It is also an honor to bring Charlie Thomas’ Drifters back to Proctors. The Drifters had 13 top thirty pop hits in the 50s, 60s and 70s as well as six #1 smash hits on the R&B charts. Unforgettable hits include “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “Dance with Me,” “Under the Boardwalk,” ”Up on the Roof,” ”On Broadway” and “This Magic Moment.” The music world lost Charlie Thomas last year, but lead singer Jeff Hall, recruited by Charlie’s wife Rita to keep the Drifters music alive, is excellent and Charlie’s backup singers are on stage with Jeff.
Opening act and performing at Proctors for the first time is Chris Montez. A native of Los Angeles, Chris’ diverse talents resulted in Rock n Roll, Pop, Easy Listening and Latin hits. Top ten songs included “Let’s Dance,” “The More I See You,” “Call Me,” “There will Never Be Another You,” “Time After Time” and “Some Kinda Fun.” He will be a great opening act to begin a five-act show of countless hits that will bring the audience back to a wonderful time of their lives.
