Last August, I wrote a column on Mental Health Days and how important it was to build in downtime where appropriate into your work schedule.
This past week, I started final preparations for the fall semester as well as some final work on some PhD projects and consultant work. I have gotten in the habit of building in enough flexibility into my schedule so I can take a Mental Health Day or Half Day where feasible.
This Friday, after hitting a wall both mentally and physically, I moved a few things on my calendar that weren’t client appointments and gave myself an extra day off. Today, I woke up recharged and reenergized without falling behind on my schedule.
This summer, since I was off from teaching, I built in 1/2 days a couple days a week to ensure I was able to keep up with all the other projects and work and still have time to relax.
What do you do to build in “Mental Health Time?”
