Yahoo’s CEO Marissa Mayer recently issued the memo that essentially removed the rights of Yahoo employees to work from home and created a policy to require all workers to work from headquarters.
As a manager of a virtual workforce that includes college interns, freelancers, and relationships with clients, it is clear that Mayer’s decision is pretty shortsighted and reflects what Mr. Spock once called “2-dimensional thinking”
On paper, maybe the stats show that the workers weren’t being productive, but from a real-life point of view, I think it shows a lack of trust by Yahoo of its staff (and poor management if they haven’t dealt with the productivity problem before yanking it from everyone).
