Developing talent and watching it leave can be a sobering concept for many a leader, but doing this regularly can be a valuable endeavor. Companies and managers who are known for their talent development skills and abilities are looked upon as leaders of industry and education.
As I stated recently when I spoke at the RPI BOSS event, it is better to have great talent that you have trained leave you than to have terrible talent stay.
At Braathe Enterprises, we have developed over 150 student virtual interns over the past three years who have gone on to other companies. In many ways, we are like a talent farm – develop a great crop of people and see them go out into the market as viable leaders and employees.
In other ways, we are like a minor league baseball team, knowing that our purpose is to develop high quality talent for other companies. When we hear of one of our alumni going on to work for a company like Sony Pictures or Sports Signup, we are delighted to hear of their success and that other organizations see value in our team.
