Derek Jeter is retiring this year and it should have happened sooner. As evidenced by Joe Girardi, being quoted saying that he isn’t hosting a farewell tour, I think the Yankees are tired of him too.
My few moments of distaste with the Yankees as a fan of over thirty years have come at the hands of rally killing double plays and groundouts by the Captain, and before him Bernie Williams, another Yankee who has way too many lap dogs singing his praises.
Jeter and Bernie have done a great deal in the community, for the sport and for the Yankees, but they stayed beyond their usefulness. It is painful to watch Derek, my then college hero, struggling to hit the ball out of the infield, making a shell of himself.
Know when it’s time to go, and be humble enough to leave before you are a shell of yourself. I hate Derek Jeter being on the Yankees right now and it’s time to move on.
Real Yankee fans hate Jeter because he stayed beyond his usefulness to the Yankees, and now is impeding the Yankees from entering a new era.
