The Human Resource (HR) department handles a number of areas for business production. One of the areas for HR is workplace compensation. Management and employees need to be compensated for their business efforts or work completed. Compensation can be of different forms. These forms are direct financial, in-direct financial, and non-financial.
Direct financial are wages paid to the employee. Employees can be paid wages on an hourly basis or salary. Salary payments are a set amount paid either weekly, biweekly, monthly, or annually. Another example of direct financial is wage raises or increases for performance.
Non-direct financial is when there is a benefit offered through the employer. For example, these benefits can include health insurance, life insurance, dental, vision, disability coverage, and social security benefits, etc.
Non-financial compensation includes anything not pertaining to payments. Some organizations like to use employee recognition or offer advancement opportunities. Other benefit factors include a fun work environment, fair rules and policies, and flexible scheduling.
All of these compensation methods are used by many organizations. Employees should be compensated fairly and given motivation to enjoy where they work. That is the reason for the variety of compensation methods used by Human Resource Management.
