Have you recently lost a key member of your team?
Are you in a rush to fill the position?
Take a breath and give some time to consider whether you are trying to replace the person you have lost (or are losing) or whether you are doing what is best for your business.
Many times, people rush to fill a role before truly determining if the role makes sense in its current form. Often, when you look at the job description of a position once someone has left, it may have evolved or been enhanced since the previous person filled the role.
Next time you get an employee or manager to give notice, take a moment to review the role and the responsibilities you’ve added to it. Many times, a key employee’s departure sets up an opportunity for job enhancement for others, or to create a new role where someone with more (or less) skills can fill the position.
