During this pandemic, many people have had to make the switch from working or going to school in person to being completely remote. As much as this has been convenient and enjoyable for some people, many people have struggled with the idea of being away from the workplace or classroom itself. This can be due to several reasons such as a lack of knowledge regarding technology, inability to focus at home, struggling with self-motivation, and other factors that affect your work ethic at home. This can affect your ability to work correctly and focus on tasks to complete at home. I’ve noticed that not being in the classroom has affected how I work, and I find myself more distracted. This takes time since not everyone feels motivated to work from the comfort of their home.
Something I’ve found that has helped me stay better focused on tasks is to put myself first and make sure I’m taking good care of myself and my overall health. Taking care of your health is extremely important, especially this year, as we are still under a pandemic. This is something I never took seriously at first since I thought completing work always comes first. Instead, I’ve found that if I don’t have mental clarity, I cannot focus correctly and do my best work. Taking care of ourselves and making sure we feel our best physically and mentally highly improves motivation and work ethic.
Simple Self-Care Habits:
- Taking regular breaks
- Going on a walk around your neighborhood
- Reading a book
- Listening to a podcast
- Doing skincare/a face mask
- Taking a bath
- Cooking a nice meal
- Spending time with loved ones
- Meditating
- Exercising
- …and doing just about anything that temporarily takes your mind off of work!
Although these ideas may be simple and seem mindless to sit and do, they are essential for our wellbeing. It’s necessary to take time off work to reflect and allow yourself to have a break to help regain focus and self-motivation.
