As I look back at the end of the year, what stands out to me as the biggest lessons are:
1. Learning to be more generous with energy and more stingy with time – By giving others my all, it doesn’t matter how much time has passed as long as I’ve given them all of my energy and focus when we are together.
2. Learning to become even more effective at working remotely – By showing others how I can do the same work in similar or less time with similar or greater quality by not commuting as much, I’ve created the same value while valuing my time in the car and on the road at a higher premium. It’s rare today that I have to go anywhere to do the work I know and love to do.
3. Learning to care less has helped me to be less careless – I’ve learned how to let people show me they care (and if they don’t) by having more mutually beneficial friendships and business relationships. Sometimes, I’ve needed to give people a chance to surprise me or to show me how they really feel about our working or personal lives.
I don’t believe in New Years Resolutions, I believe in new day and new hour resolutions. May each new day and new hour give you a chance to reflect on where you’ve come from and make you happy about who you are today.
