Do you suffer from a lack of energy or motivation? Do you feel disillusioned, unproductive, and exhausted? Job burnout could be the culprit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 2020 was, for many individuals, nightmarish. Your career was likely among one of the aspects of life that changed seemingly overnight. What may have seemed like temporary arrangements at first have been prolonged indefinitely. While some industries have been able to shift to remote work almost seamlessly, other careers have suffered in a world of isolation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Mayo Clinic<\/a> cites the following as potential causes of job burnout: lack of control, lack of support, and work-life imbalance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Lack of control.<\/span><\/i> A global pandemic with no clear end in sight? Yeah, you can say that again.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Lack of support.<\/span><\/i> While we seem permanently connected to others through email, Zoom, and other means, gone are the days of impromptu catch-ups in the office break room. Feeling isolated from your fellow employees, even though they may be one click away, takes a toll.<\/span><\/p>\n Work-life imbalance.<\/span><\/i> For some, working at home has come with a horde of benefits. However, boundaries between work life and personal life seem to be eroding, often to the detriment of our mental health. At what point does \u201cworking at home\u201d become \u201cliving at work?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n In summation: if you\u2019re feeling this way, you\u2019re not alone, you\u2019re not without reasonable cause, and you\u2019re not without hope for the future. Here are a few small things you can do to combat burnout.<\/span><\/p>\n Take a break.<\/span><\/i> Our brains aren\u2019t meant to stare at a screen for sixteen hours a day. Stand up. Look out the window. Do jumping jacks in your kitchen. Just get away from the computer and the tasks that may be stressing you out. Taking even a five-minute break every hour or so is incredibly beneficial.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
