You can now officially call me a model! Actually, I prefer the term Super Model. I’m going to need a giant glittery gold star for my dressing room, all white furniture and a large bowl of red M&M’s from now on. And no, you can’t make eye contact with me at anytime.
Sorry, I’ve been trying to practice my diva demands ever since Brett & I were picked to be a part of the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Water Park photo and commercial shoot! Just a short hop, skip and a jump up the road from our apartment in Clifton Park, The Lodge was looking for extras and models for their advertising campaign and we happily volunteered. All we had to do was smile while going down the water slide!
With the normal yucky weather blowing through the Capital Region, the Lodge generously opened the doors and allowed us to stay over the night before the early morning shoot. We got to stay in a huge suite with all the amenities! Everything was so warm and homey, it made you just want to cuddle up with a mug of hot coco!
The commercial photo shoot started at 8:30 Saturday morning, so we were off before we even knew it! Thankfully, the water park is connected to the lodge, so it was great not having to layer on the base layers, clothes and coats just to get out…it was just a short stroll through the hotel lobby.
This marked my first visit to an indoor water park ever! Back home in Missouri, it’s so dang hot, my parents usually keep the pool open ’till the first week of October. Honestly, after growing up in the heat & humidity, the idea of an indoor water park sort of blows my mind! It was a balmy 85 degrees in there and it was awesome!
It was totally surreal floating by on the lazy river and looking out the window at all the snow on the ground! Several of the water slides at the park loop around outside the building and it was crazy to see all of the icicles hanging off! I’ll tell you, it was so warm in the park, you never even noticed a temperature change when going down the slides.
The park was looking to do family photo shoots and apparently thought we looked responsible enough to pass as real adults! Brett and I landed the role of “Happy Parents” and were matched up with the cutest three-year-old in Upstate New York! Our ‘pretend’ daughter for the day was Loriana Walter of Chittenango, New York. She was so fun to be around and we really got a kick out of playing with her in the kiddie pool!
Thankfully, Loriana came with a life jacket (and her sweet parents Jim & Lorrell Walter) so we felt a little better about not accidentally drowning her or having to take her to the bathroom. They had braved the snow the night before to be a part of the arcade photo shoot.
Photographers for Six Flags shot video and still pics for commercials that will air this spring and summer. Look for me & Brett to be talking it up in the commercials! (You know it’s hard to shut up former television reporters!) Loriana was by far the best actress there though…the cutie stole the scene in every shot! Brett and I aren’t sure if we were parents or the “cool” older siblings when we were paired with a 12 and 13-year-old for shots of us in a family raft ride.
One of our Brett’s favorite things was the surf pool! No need for summer sun or big waves to hang ten here! Brett was an avid surfer when he lived in North Carolina, so he didn’t fall off immediately…I, on the other hand, was lucky to escape the ride still dressed! There’s nothing like capturing your own wipeouts on video!
It’s tough being a model! Our “hard work” paid off though…Six Flags gave each of us four tickets and an overnight stay at the Great Escape Lodge for smiling at the camera. Looks like we’ll be dragging out our swimmy suits again before summer even gets here!
