Back home in the South, small town festivals are a right of passage. Every year, we sweat it out in our cutest picnic outfits in order to catch up with neighbors and friends. Turns out, folks up here in the North do the same.
I got a chance to check out Niska Day down in Niskayuna. 2011 marked the 30th annual event, one of the longest running community festivals in the Capital District.
Held at the Craig Elementary School, this year’s festival was a birthday party theme complete with party hats, noisemakers, clowns, jugglers, pony rides and of course a gigantic birthday cake!
Community gatherings like this may not garner a lot of attention or draw record sized crowds, but they are part of the reason towns can remain tight-knit…no matter where you live.
