Timely Manner
I’ve come to realize that there are some things that are just different up here in the North. Sure, folks in these parts sound a little different, but sometimes it’s hard to just plain understand what y’all are saying.
For example…a huge debate is brewing in my office over time. As in tick-tock time. Here’s how the conversation goes:
“What time is the meeting?”
The answer, 9:45, depends on who you are asking.
I would reply: “It’s at a quarter till 10:00″
My Yankee co-workers insist: “The meeting is at a quarter of 10:00″
Uh, six of one, half dozen of the other right?? Not unless you were raised down South and you think quarter of means 10:15 (may I point out like the rest of modern society believes) and you end up late…whoopsie!
So the question stands…how do y’all say 9:45?
