Back home in the South, beauty pageants are a pretty big deal. I did my first pageant when I was only four-months-old and didn’t stop until I was in graduate school. For me, it was a fun way to spend time with my mom, get my hair and makeup done and get to wear a pretty dress. Competing in pageants was something I looked forward to doing with my own daughter someday.
As you might already know, I had a boy.
Guess what? There are beauty pageants for boys too!
Colt did his first pageant at the Pollard Picnic in Arkansas over the weekend. It was a “natural” pageant (if you’re familiar with the terms used on Toddlers & Tiaras). You would have gotten a laugh had you seen the Queensbury, NY salesperson’s expression when I told her I was looking for something for my son to wear in his first beauty pageant….you would have thought I had three heads!
I found us coordinating outfits to wear on stage and we practiced him smiling at my parents who were in the audience. His charm paid off!
Colt ended up winning first alternate! As you can tell, I was a little more excited than he was! The funny thing is that we came home with a trophy taller than he was!
Which now sits proudly center stage on the fireplace…right between my Emmy & Brett’s Rookie of the Year award. Can you tell we’re proud of our little boy?
