The weather is beautiful, people are constantly outdoors and it seems everyone is smiling! We arrived in New York last May so we experienced our first great summer, but didn&#8217;t really appreciate what we had. This year we set out with a different attitude.<\/p>\n<p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"track.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.albany.com\/i-heart-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2011\/08\/track.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p>My family has always enjoyed horse racing. I grew up watching the ponies fly by at Oaklawn in Hot Springs, Arkansas. And by the time Brett came into the picture, he got his first taste of the track after the Hot Springs weekend wedding of our friends Glenn &amp; Emily Marini.<\/p>\n<p>Last summer, we tried out hand at horses at Saratoga&#8217;s beautiful track. Going into our second year of &#8220;Yankee&#8221; horse racing, we&#8217;re still enjoying the scenery, but have <em>still<\/em> yet to win a race!<\/p>\n<p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DSCN3644[1].JPG\" src=\"https:\/\/www.albany.com\/i-heart-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2011\/08\/dscn36445b15d.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p>We had a new strategy this year, so we paired up with our friends Joe &amp; Renee Belardo and Joe&#8217;s sister Stephanie hoping they could offer some betting insight. We were super excited to enjoy the races while tailgating from the paddocks!<\/p>\n<p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DSCN3650[1].JPG\" src=\"https:\/\/www.albany.com\/i-heart-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2011\/08\/dscn36505b15d.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s no question, the best part of Saratoga tailgating is the food! And we sure had plenty of it&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DSCN3639[1].JPG\" src=\"https:\/\/www.albany.com\/i-heart-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2011\/08\/dscn36395b15d.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DSCN3637[1].JPG\" src=\"https:\/\/www.albany.com\/i-heart-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2011\/08\/dscn36375b15d.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DSCN3638[1].JPG\" src=\"https:\/\/www.albany.com\/i-heart-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2011\/08\/dscn36385b15d.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p>It must have been our super snack power, because we finally, finally, finally won a race! Unfortunately, it doesn&#8217;t look like we&#8217;ll be able to quit our jobs and buy our own private island anytime soon&#8230;we only made $.05 off the bet!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the best things about Upstate New York is summer time!
