Gamete Poem

The dance of one and many, begins so long ago

Nestled and warm,

We alone sojourn out

dominant ovum pulsing from ovarian chamber

vigorous tadpole chosen from seminal pack

Then,

Singular cells glimpse one another

Like Bath-Sheba on the rooftop

Attraction pulling them together, come what may

Pressing unto each other, push and heave

Joining, separating, then joining again

Parts of the parts separate, mix, then separate again

meiosis stretches

mitosis cleaves

And the two shall become one,

A singular universe

Deep stillness

The fertility dance of self:

We dance alone

Together

Alone

Together

Again
