Are you ready for Hallowe’en? I’m getting ready. My black feather wreath is on the door. The orange candlesticks and pumpkin placemats are out. Heck, even my cat is orange and black.
The Albany Public Library is ready, as well. They’re screening a series of spooky silent films this month at the Main Branch on Washington Avenue. Each film will be accompanied by a live performance of original music. The shows are free, on Wednesdays in October at 7:00 PM.
Wednesday, October 10: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1920), starring John Barrymore (yep, Drew’s grandfather). Live, original music by Ryan Slowey and Sean Fortune.
Wednesday, October 17: A Throw of the Dice (1929), starring Seeta Devi, Himansu Rai and Charu Roy. Live, original music by Chris Neuhaus, Nathan Glass, and Sarah Clark.
Wednesday, October 24: The Wind (1928), starring Lillian Gish (another name familiar to modern audiences; she’s no relation to Annabeth, but the Smashing Pumpkins’ debut album was named after her). Live, original music by Shape Shifting Shepherds with special guest Laura Frare.
Wednesday, October 31: Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages (1922), an early documentary. Live, original music by Helicoprion.
