Safe Haven — If you couldn’t tell just from looking at the poster, yep: another Nicholas Sparks novel has come to the screen for Valentine’s Day. This one stars Julianne Hough (Footloose 2011) as the mysterious stranger, with Josh Duhamel (Transformers, Las Vegas) as the smoky local hunk who helps her face her past.
Escape from Planet Earth — It’s a kid’s space adventure with the voice talents of Brendan Fraser (Encino Man, Blast from the Past), Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex and the City), and Jessica Alba (Fantastic Four). An astronaut responds to an alien SOS, but in the immortal words of Admiral Akbar, “it’s a trap!” Will the Weinstein company, famous for Oscar-caliber movies for grownups, break through with the younger crowd?
