Dead Man Down (R) — You may have seen the quick-cut, dark, stylish ads for this thriller on your teevee in recent days. Colin Farrell (Phone Booth, Total Recall, Miami Vice) and Noomi Rapace (Sherlock Holmes 2, Dragon Tattoo trilogy [Swedish]) along with Terrence Howard (Hustle and Flow) are all members of the mixed cast. Can they save it from being a grand “gangster’s victim turns to gangster’s moll in bid for revenge” cliche?

Tommy Lee Jones (The Fugitive, Coal Miner’s Daughter) and Matthew Fox (Lost) star as generals in occupied Japan at the end of the Second World War. Should they hang the emperor as a war criminal?
