Acclaimed writer and movie critic Roger Ebert has passed away today and I’m deeply saddened.
46 years ago he began writing for the Chicago Sun-Times. I’ve long admired, respected, and often deferred to his opinion in regards to films. The man was a trooper, fighting multiple cancers that even necessitated him removing a part of his jaw. He maintained doing what he loved even to the end. His last words explained that he was venturing away from the Sun-Times and starting a new venture on his own website to continue working and doing what he loved most. He also thanked his readers for all the support they’ve given him over the years.
I know these words don’t do him justice, but much love is sent out to his family for their loss. His indelible presence will be felt in the hearts of moviegoers and critics everywhere as long as we remember him. And it is us who should thank you, Mr. Ebert.
