[apologies for getting that song stuck in your head]
Movie Recommendations! It’s cold outside. It’s snowy. I know you don’t want to get out there and would rather cuddle up at home but there’s hot chocolate/tea, cake, and real-buttered popcorn at the Spectrum to be had! You can’t go wrong with a movie theater that serves cake. (My favorite is the carrot cake, if you’re curious).
That being said, there are a LOT of movies playing so I’ll list what’s out there and share with you my picks of what I’d like to see of what’s playing there.
Keep your glowing Sting-replica sheathed, my dear nerdlings, I still want to see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. What can I say? Whether it’s true to the book or not, I still love seeing this franchise on the big screen. Shut up and take my money.
Philomena stars Dame Judy Dench (whom I love love love) who brings levity to a heart-wrenching story of a young mother living in a convent who has her child taken from her and adopted out to an American couple. She spends her life searching for him and befriends a journalist who aids her in her search. (based on a true story)
American Hustle is getting some Oscar buzz (of course, with that cast? too easy). I loved David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook so I’m definitely in line to see this period film of political corruption. Plus it has a stellar cast so I’m excited anticipating their performances.
Also playing are: The Wolf of Wall Street, of which I’ve had some glowing recommendations from friends; Saving Mr. Banks, which I’ve seen and you could wait for video but it was still an enjoyable film; Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, which I expect will be a moving tribute to the late Nelson Mandela and I’m eagerly waiting to see it; Secret Life of Walter Mitty, I’ve seen the original version with Danny Kaye and loved it so I’ll keep you posted as to whether or not I’ll like this version; Nebraska has gotten some positive reviews, filmed by Alexander Payne who directed Sideways I’ll give this one a shot because I enjoyed that film; and The Book Thief based on the international bestseller, and from the previews it looks to be a beautiful film.
So get out there! Brave the snow! Go see and enjoy one of these fine films.
