Anybody know any good movies this weekend?
Actually, I overheard an industry insider mention Star Wars pre-sale tickets for opening weekend topped $100 million yesterday. (I have not verified that information). According to Deadline, Disney expected to hit that number by Friday, with a weekend tally expected to top out as high as $220 million.
Most important for movie-goers, theaters always hold back 10% of tickets for window sales, meaning if you can’t get them online, go to the theater anyway – early – and tickets may still be there. Major chains are going out of their way to ensure this is even more true for Star Wars. Theaters also regularly add screenings at a moment’s notice for major events like this. They’ll even dump other films to make way when necessary.
excited about when you see the kind of advance sales we’ve seen on this
film, in December no less, but with so many screenings available and the
ability of exhibitors to expand based on demand, anyone who shows up at
the box office to find a showtime for this weekend will be able to find
one – more than once if they are so inclined.”So if you don’t see a 1AM screening Thursday night on Fandango,
call or go anyway. If everything else is sold out, chances are good they
added a showing.
