The City of Troy, New York - Centrally Located in the Capital Region
The City of Troy is located on the east side of the Hudson River just north of Albany, and is best known as the home of "Uncle Sam" - the goateed, patriotic figure that grew to symbolize the United States government.
It is also known as the Collar City, having supported twenty-six collar, cuff, and shirt manufacturing facilities in 1901. No longer active in the garment industry, the City of Troy is undergoing a significant cultural and economic renaissance.
Improvements to the downtown and the revitalization of the waterfront area include the introduction of excellent restaurants, cultural attractions, and new and unique shops. Troy enjoys a rich and diverse population that provides a wonderful flair to its culinary profile, with restaurants featuring Italian, Greek, Chinese, Mexican, Caribbean, and Lebanese cuisine. Economic revival is evident in the heart of the city, where historic architecture is being preserved and real estate is moving at a brisk pace.
The Troy School District consists of 4,300 students in several elementary schools, one middle school, and Troy High School serves the grade 9-12 population. Troy is also a college-town community. It is home to the prestigious Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as well as Hudson Valley Community College, Russell Sage College and the Emma Willard School for girls. The State University at Albany, College of Saint Rose, Siena College, Skidmore, and Union College are all within a 30 minute drive of Troy.
Centrally located in the Capital Region, transportation to and from Troy is readily available. Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) provides public transportation for Troy. There is an Amtrak station in nearby Rensselaer, and the Albany International Airport is just a few minutes drive.
